Frequently asked questions
Who is Simply Listening for?
Simply Listening is for anyone who wants a safe, respectful space to talk things through.
You don’t need to be in crisis, have a clear reason for reaching out, or know exactly what you want to say. Some people come because life feels busy or heavy. Others come because they enjoy meaningful conversation or feel a little disconnected. Some just want the chance to speak freely, without advice or expectations.
If you’re looking for a calm, neutral space to talk — this service may be for you.
What if I don't know what to talk about?
That’s completely okay.
Many people arrive feeling unsure where to start, or with the sense that there’s “a lot” on their mind but no clear words yet. There’s no requirement to have a plan, a story, or a topic ready.
You’re welcome to begin wherever feels easiest — even if that means sitting quietly for a moment, talking around things, or letting thoughts unfold as they come.
There is no right or wrong way to use the space.
What happens in a session?
A session is a one-to-one conversation where the focus is entirely on you.
Sessions can take place in thoughtfully chosen settings such as a quiet café, a gentle walk, or via phone or online — whatever feels most comfortable and accessible for you. Together, we’ll choose an environment that feels calm, respectful, and supportive.
There’s no agenda, no pressure to reach conclusions, and no expectation to “get anywhere.” The role of the listener is simply to be present, attentive, and genuinely engaged with what you have to say.
Is this counselling, therapy, or coaching?
No. Simply Listening is a non-clinical listening service.
We don’t provide counselling, therapy, coaching, diagnoses, treatment, or clinical advice. We don’t analyse, assess, or direct the conversation, and we don’t put pressure on you to find solutions or strategies.
We deeply respect the important work of counsellors, psychologists, and other mental health professionals. Simply Listening offers a different kind of support — one that can sit alongside other services, but should never replace care that’s needed for your wellbeing.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes — conversations are treated with care, discretion, and respect.
What you share during a session is not repeated or disclosed. Sessions may take place in public or semi-public spaces such as quiet cafés or outdoor areas, and while these settings are chosen thoughtfully, complete privacy can’t always be guaranteed.
Even so, confidentiality remains a core value of Simply Listening, and your conversation is held with respect and integrity.
How often can I book sessions?
That’s entirely up to you.
Some people book a single session to talk something through. Others choose to meet more regularly for a period of time. Some return occasionally, when they feel the need.
There’s no set schedule, no expectation, and no obligation — you decide what feels right for you.
Session Fees
Simply Listening offers two session options, depending on what feels right for you.
Many people find that it takes time to settle into conversation — to arrive, breathe, and begin speaking freely. For this reason, longer sessions are available for those who would like more space without feeling rushed.
-
60-minute session — $75
-
90-minute session — $100
You’re welcome to choose the option that best suits you. There’s no expectation to use the full time in any particular way — the space is yours, and the pace is your own.
Payment details are discussed prior to confirming a booking, so everything is clear and comfortable from the outset.
A note about rebates and claims
Simply Listening is a private, non-clinical service. Sessions are not eligible for Medicare, Private Health Insurance, or other rebates.
This service is designed as a standalone listening space and should not be considered a substitute for clinical or mental health care.
What if I realise I need more support?
What if I realise I need more support?
Your wellbeing matters.
If, during a conversation, it becomes clear that you may need additional or more specialised support, the listener will gently pause the session and encourage you to seek appropriate professional or emergency assistance.
Simply Listening maintains a list of trusted support services and can help guide you toward those resources if needed.
Who will I be speaking with?
You’ll be speaking with a listener from Simply Listening — someone who is there to offer calm, respectful presence and genuine attention.
Our listeners are chosen for their ability to listen with care, neutrality, and integrity. They don’t advise, analyse, or direct the conversation. Their role is simply to be present with you, and to hold space for whatever you wish to share.
If it’s important to you to speak with a listener of a particular gender, you’re welcome to let us know. Where possible, we’ll do our best to accommodate your preference, so you can feel as comfortable and at ease as possible.
What matters most is that you feel respected, safe, and heard.
